New Mexico Biotechnology & Biomedical Association President Dr. Shannon Sheehan Promotes State's Bioscience Industry in Washington D.C.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jun 7, 2010 - In a move to advance the interests and accelerate the growth of New Mexico's emerging biotechnology and biomedical corridor, Dr. Shannon Sheehan, president of the New Mexico Biotechnology and Biomedical Association (NMBio) recently met with key state representatives in Washington D.C.
The objective of the meetings was to ensure that the voice of NMBio is heard by New Mexico's federal legislative delegation and carried forth to a national level. Dr. Sheehan met with Senator Tom Udall and Congressman Harry Teague, as well as the staffs of Senator Bingaman, Congressman Martin Hienrich and Congressman Ben Lujan.
Dr. Sheehan's meetings are part of a national biotechnology industry effort to contribute meaningful dialog and informed decision making at the national level regarding patent legislation, health care reform, biologics, SBIR funding, as well as NIH funding of Cures Acceleration Network programs.
"New Mexico has all the key elements of an emerging biotech-biomed corridor that is positioned to become a hotbed for the bioscience industry in the coming years. New Mexico's legislators in Washington expressed a strong interest in supporting the biomedical and biofuels industries. NMBio has a continuing dialog with law makers.
