The highlight of the program will feature a panel discussion focusing on best practices, workforce, tech transfer and venture funding for early stage companies. The Biotechnology Innovation Organization’s Peter M. Pellerito will lead the discussion and serve as moderator. Peter, who serves as BIO’s Senior Policy Advisor Federal/State Economic Development and Technology Transfer Lead, has advised more than 20 states on how to overcome hurdles and accelerate the development of their bioscience sectors.

Panelists will include Thomas Kowalski, President and CEO of the Texas Healthcare & Bioscience Institute. Maria Thacker, Executive Director of the Georgia Global Health Alliance and Acting President and CEO of Georgia Bio, and John Conrad, President of Illinois Bio.

The program will also include a policy discussion highlighting the upcoming 2019 Legislative Session in New Mexico. In addition to legislative leaders and sponsors of several key bills, BIO’s head of governmental affairs for the West and Southwest will contribute to the discussion.

Dr. Stuart Rose will give an overview on the current state of the bioscience sector and its future prospects for growth. He has over 40 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to establishing The BioScience Center in 2012, he served as founder and President/CEO of Oso Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing, a contract manufacturing organization for injectable pharmaceuticals. Before founding Oso Biopharmaceutical, he held executive positions with Penick Corporation (President/CEO), ICN – now Valeant – Pharmaceuticals (Vice President of Worldwide Manufacturing and VP/GM of ICN Europe), and Par Pharmaceuticals (Senior VP). He spent the majority of his early career with American Cyanamid’s pharmaceutical arm, Lederle Laboratories, where he rose to Vice President of International Manufacturing and Logistics.

Dr. Larson serves as chair of the Bioscience Authority as well as a board member of NMBio and co-chair of the association’s legislative committee.
