NEW MEXICO BIOTECHNOLOGY
& BIOMEDICAL ASSOCIATION

During the latter half of July, NMBio launched its “Our Shot Begins at Home” campaign. The editorial content of our public affairs initiative urging residents to get vaccinated captured more than 2.4 million impressions. The digital ads ran nationally in the New York Times, The Washington Post, POLITICO, and The Hill as well as throughout the state – the Santa Fe New Mexican, Albuquerque Journal, Roswell Daily Record, and the Las Cruces Sun-News. More than 2,000 individuals clicked through to view NMBio’s website landing page. The digital ads targeting the Roundhouse brought us over 100,000 impressions and 145 clicks to our website. The report shows a click through rate of 0.093, well above the benchmark range for public affairs campaigns (0.05 – 0.06). If you missed it, here’s a link: https://www.nmbio.org/our-shot-begins-at-home/

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to see a demonstration of the LabXchange that was sponsored by BIO. Created by Harvard University and financially underwritten by Amgen, one of our association’s most supportive partners. The LabXchange — https://www.labxchange.org — offers users the power to create, to remix learning content into learning pathways, to build a scientific network, the ability to share academic and research accomplishments, to create classes (for those over 18), and the power to experiment through the creation of virtual simulations. Instructions to create an account are included in the attachment. Its free. This is an exceptional opportunity to influence and motivate our students to excel in the biosciences at no cost to the state or to them. Join me in spreading the word about this program to state officials as well as to educators in the public and private sectors.

Another exciting August initiative: I’ve had the opportunity to work with editorial team from NYC-based Pharma’s Almanac — https://www.pharmasalmanac.com. They are visiting 50 states in 50 days this fall. I’m now setting up the itinerary for their visit to NM and lining up firms/individuals for them to film and interview. The target date is October 13. They are committed to interviewing the founders/CEOs of several of our innovative and successful life science firms. Also, I’m hoping Governor Grisham’s schedule allows her to participate and promote the state’s emerging bioscience sector.

I want to recognize Bob Feinberg and his team at Colliers. They are putting together a much-needed master list of NM bioscience companies and identifying a key contact at each firm. Companies are being classified and divided into the following six categories:

  • Medical Devices & Equipment
  • Medical Product Distribution
  • Agricultural Biotechnology
  • Medical & Testing Labs
  • Pharmaceuticals and Therapeutics
  • Research & Development

Finally, the time has arrived for me to update our website membership list to make sure NMBio is listing your current firm’s name (yes, a few firms have changed their corporate identity), address and contact information correctly. For any firms that are member/sponsors at the $1,000 level and above, please check to make sure we have your logo posted to our streaming list of corporate logos. If not, send it. Please forward me your changes by Labor Day.

Healthy regards,

Greg Byrnes
